What I wish I had known before beginning my nail career journey

Looking back at my journey, there are so many things I learned the hard way - through trial, error, and late nights wondering if I was even doing things right.
If you’re just starting out in the nail industry or considering taking it more seriously, here are the things I wish someone told me when I was getting started!
1. Perfect nails start with prep — Always
At the beginning, I thought design and color were what made nails look professional. But over time I learned:
✨ Prep is everything.
Cuticle work, proper nail dehydration, using the right bits - these are the real secrets to clean, long-lasting manicures. Don’t rush the base just to get to the fun part. The fun part only lasts if the base is solid.
2. You don’t have to do It all
In the beginning, I offered everything — neutrals, crazy colors, designs, extensions, you name it. I thought being “versatile” was the key to success.
But the moment I nichéd down, focused on what I love (e-file dry manicures and structure), and stopped offering services that didn’t align with my values - that’s when everything changed!
You don’t have to do it all. You just have to be really good at what you love!
3. You will learn more from clients than you think
Clients will test your patience, your technique, and your boundaries. But they’ll also help you grow faster than any training ever will.
Real-life challenges - lifting, nail health issues, awkward questions - will teach you how to problem-solve, explain your process, and become confident in your choices!
Be open. Learn from every set!
4. Education never ends (and that’s a good thing)
You’ll never know “everything,” and that’s okay. The nail industry moves fast. Trends change. Products evolve. And that’s what makes it exciting.
Investing in education - even after years of experience - is the best decision I’ve ever made. Every course I took helped me refine something, raise my prices, or feel more confident in my work!
5. Your job can be your passion - If you let It be
At first, I treated nails like a skill. Now, it’s something I truly love.!That shift happened when I started working on my career - not just in it!
When you find your style, attract your dream clients & setting your boundaries - that’s when it becomes something more!
